Wendy Wood – TRPA solar home
This solar project is unique in many regards.  A low voltage system is used to reduce production losses caused by a chimney and surrounding tree obstructions.  Additionally, a unique tree removal regulation was implemented through TRPA’s Code of Ordinances, 71.5.F – “Tree Removal for Solar Access” - which allows for the removal of trees that hinder solar production.  11 trees were accepted for removal by TRPA; some greater than 30”dia. on neighboring property – only permitted due to extensive solar studies and reports performed by SEED Inc.  Furthermore, the system includes battery backup to supply a critical load subpanel that will keep certain items of necessity running (refrigerator, a heating appliance, an effective lighting scheme, etc.) during the event of a power outage.
